Monday that it intends to auction off 31,500 acres
of timberland in Washington that is owned by its
subsidiary, the Milwaukee Land Co. Lawrence
Adelson, general counsel to the railroad, said the
decision to sell the merchantable timber was
triggered in part by a recent strengthening in world
timber demand, most notably among the Pacific Rim
countries and in Europe.
